Your character's name: Temari of the Sand
Your character's canon: Naruto (manga)
Your character's dreamwidth username: unfrangible
What name should be used for your character's tag? temari
Is your character living or dead at their time of entry? Living.
Please list any canonically pre-existing disabilities of a medical, physical, or psychiatric nature: None.
Please list any canonically pre-existing special abilities:
Temari is a kunoichi, a female shinobi, a person trained in ninpou, or the ninja arts. Shinobi are capable of casting spells, commonly referred to as jutsu, or techniques, by molding an energy known as chakra from the proper balance of life force, or stamina, and spiritual energy. As a jounin-rank ninja, Temari posseses above-average ability to mold chakra.
The arts in which a shinobi can apply this chakra are as follows:
Ninjutsu: Ninja techniques. Spells formed by reciting an incantation and forming a series of hand seals. Ninjutsu can be performed wordlessly and without seals but are more difficult to control and predict this way. Temari's signature ninjutsu is kamaitachi, a gale-force wind embedded with razor-like 'sharpened' wind. Nearly all of Temari's ninjutsu involve her fuuton, or wind release, element. She is capable of finely controlling the winds she creates, or of using them as sharp long-range weapons or as a blunt force to break defenses or cause trauma. Temari utilizes a large tessen, or war fan, to better produce and control her wind ninjutsu. She is noted as being the most capable fuuton user in all of the Allied Shinobi Army at the time of her arrival in Darrow.
Taijutsu: Hand-to-hand techniques. The ability to pound chakra into a part of the body to increase physical speed, strength and durability. Temari is an above-average user of taijutsu, although she prefers long-range fighting, and so typically avoids its use. She is quite strong, and more notably one of the faster shinobi in the Allied Shinobi Army, as noted when she was selected as part of the force tasked to take down the ressurected Third Raikage, the fastest recorded shinobi. Temari has the strength and speed to easily wield her massive tessen as a club if needs be.
Genjutsu: The ability to create illusions using one's chakra to manipulate the chakra in another person's body and mind. Temari has no skill in genjutsu, likely due to her prudent mindset. However, this does allow her a slightly above average ability to detect when genjutsu are being used and cancel them.
Summoning: Temari possesses a summoning contract with the Weasels. Her most frequent summon is of a large, sickle-wielding, eyepatched weasel by the name of Kamatari. However, because Kamatari exists in Temari's world, she will not be able to access him in Darrow.
Chakra Sensor: Temari has a moderate ability to sense the chakra of others, such that she's capable of knowing when others are 'low' on chakra or injured, and when a jutsu is being used, and what type it may be.
Tell us about your character's background:
Temari is the first child, and only daughter, of the Fourth Kazekage and his wife, Karura. The Kazekage being the leader of Sunagakure, the Village Hidden In The Sand, the shinobi village of the Wind Country, Temari found herself saddled with high expectations, and being someone who consistently intimidated her peers. This was not lessened by the status of her youngest brother, Gaara, who was the Hidden Sand's jinchuuriki, a human being used as a vessel to seal a demon within - in this case, Shukaku, the One-Tail.
In a ploy by her father, the Kazekage, to test whether Gaara could ever be a useful weapon for the village, Gaara was told by their uncle, Yashamaru, that he was never loved by his mother. Gaara broke because of this emotional maniupulation, allowing Shukaku to take control as Gaara attacked the village. Temari's mother, Karura, had died giving birth to Gaara, and so, hisbirth had always been contentious, though Temari and middle brother, Kankurou, never blamed Gaara for this. However, neither were the two of them ever emotionally close to the unstable Gaara.
At the age of twelve, Temari became a shinobi of the Sand. She would participate in the Chuunin Exams held by the Hidden Leaf to become a middle-ranked ninja at seventeen, defeating her first opponent, Tenten, brutally, and defeating her second opponent, Shikamaru, via his withdrawl after a stalemate. After her defeat, she became interested in Shikamaru, and further allied herself with the Leaf when Uzumaki Naruto helped to heal some of the damage done to her brother, Gaara, by their father. After this point, Temari's relationship with her brothers, especially Gaara, improved drastically.
Temari would become a jounin, an upper-ranked shinobi, during the two and a half years of Uzumaki Naruto's recluse training. At the beginning of this time, her father, the Kazekage, was murdered by the rogue ninja Orochimaru, and Gaara, having done much healing over the last few years, would become the Fifth Kazekage, making Temari one of his bodyguards.
After Gaara was nearly killed by Akatsuki when they extrtacted the demon Shukaku from his body, Temari become newly enthusiastic about world politics, and when the five great countries brokered peace in order to attack Akatsuki in the Fourth Shinobi World War as the Allied Shinobi Army, Temari would sit in on the meeting of the five Kage as they decided on the terms.
During the War itself, Temari has been fighting bravely as a member of Shikamaru's long-range specialist division, and was one of the ninja partially responsible for defeating the Third Raikage -- as well, she's been providing a constant support for Shikamaru in his leadership role.
Your character's personality:
Temari is unflappable. She's unshakeable. She's unfrangible. Her biggest problems occur when the people around her can't say the same. Born into a family of no small import, her mother died when she was quite young, and her father was an aloof and serious man not interested in tending to children. As the eldest of three siblings, she had her work cut out for her. Older of two brothers, Kankurou, was boisterous and temperamental, and the younger Gaara, damaged and deeply unstable. She had to grow up fast, and she had to not let it get to her.
Temari is also intelligent. Posssessing a naturally analytical mind, she sizes a situation up as soon as she steps into it, calculating how best to win -- or to defuse, if it comes to it Pragmatic, she rarely takes a chance when it's likely to fail, and would prefer to find the route of least resistance if one is available. The less stress, the better. She's not a peaceful person by nature, but she can be quite the diplomat when she wants to, dealing with a troublesome problem the very moment it comes up, whether it's making sure her brothers don't flip their lids, or brokering an alliance between two individuals who just don't get along.
Not to say that she doesn't have a little of the same cruel streak common to her father and brothers. She's not likely to give a shit about the life of someone who's unimportant to her, frankly, and in a fight, physical or verbal, will sometimes go right out of her way to disabuse others of what she sees as their being too sweet, too naive, or just too damn delicate. She doesn't mince words with friends, either, but for those she does care for, she can also have a kind word and a thoughtful encouragement, even a small smile, if that's what she knows they need.
She may be stoic and blunt, but she's also prudent, above all else. Unafraid to speak her mind, she values competence and efficiency. That's not to say she can't be sympathetic when weaknesses are shown and cracks appear -- but fragility, especially unexpected fragility, will initially earn only blatant confusion and a helpful, 'man up!'
Why do you want to play this character?
So I love Naruto. Obviously. Because I apped the central protagonist. But I love ALL of Naruto, so I also felt like I wanted to app a character from a country that was not the same as Naruto's, being the Wind Country, which is Darker And Edgier than The Fire Country. Temari grew up in a village that had originally planned to attack Naruto's village and overtake it, although they would form a strong alliance after that. The Hidden Sand also has been responsible for such things as the murder of powerful shinobi to turn their corpses into special combat puppets, the physical, mental and emotional abuse, directly, of its shinobi, and a list of other horrors for the supposed greater good.
Having Temari around will both help me as a player p[ut Naruto into his greater context, in Darrow, and also allow me to present the same universe to other character from a different perspective entirely. Temari is far more serious and cynical than Naruto. She'll be more likely to be dissatisfied by Darrow, and more likely to do something concrete about it.
Also Temari is a lady. A badass lady who I want to play very much, not just because my roster is bereft of females, but also because she left an impression on me the first time I met her in the manga, ten years agoi. If I still adore and respect her character now, ten years after the fact, I can be sure that Temari is someone I want to play on more than just a whim.

"Absurd!"
Gaara was the Kazekage, the leader of Sunagakure. He is a strong young man, intelligent, wise, and deserving of sincere respect, something that Temari would demand for him, if necessary. He is also her little brother. Nothing will ever change that.
Right now, her little brother is rushing to the aid of Uzumaki Naruto.
There's conflict in her breast.
She knows how Gaara must feel about Naruto; for four years, he's been the centerpiece of Gaara's life, a constant role model and inspiration. The person who, for all intents, gave Gaara his life back to him, twice. She understands that this, fighting as the Captain-Commander in this war for the freedom of the world, must be Gaara's one way to return that gift that Naruto had blessed him with so long ago. What she sees now ... still hurts, grasping at her heart like a fist and squeezing. She grits her teeth.
Her little brother had, somehow, allied himself again with the demon Shukaku. Why, she couldn't begin to understand. Shukaku had caused Gaara nothing but pain, and fear, and loneliness, hadn't he? If it was her, she would never want to set eyes on the tailed beast again in her life. Even now, her gut turns at the thought of Shukaku, and his laughing maw and ponderous bulk, when he'd been released the first time on Konohagakure.
Truly, Gaara would do anything to protect them all now, to protect Uzumaki Naruto. Even the worst thing.
There were nine of them. Nine tailed beasts, nine ridiculously huge monsters. But she's too numb, after all she's seen in this battle, from the slaughter of tens of thousands of troops, to the terrifying abilities of Uchiha Obito and Uchiha Madara, to feel anything about it anymore.
She realizes what's going on. She's not sure it affects her anymore.
She gets her feet under herself and moves closer to the main stage of battle through the trees. She doesn't know what she can do to help Gaara. She'd only been able to land a single hit on Madara. But she wants to be closer to him.
When the massive chains shoot out of nowhere, wrap around the tailed beasts and chain them like so many struggling dogs, like pets for Madara's abuse, she closes her eyes to it and screams. Screams until she feels her voice crack and her throat stripped raw. It's the only opportunity she will give herself. The only emotion she'll let herself show.
Because she knows what those chains mean. The chains mean that they're on the side that's losing, now.
"Gaara! Uzumaki Naruto!"
She stumbles to her feet, lurching forward to grab a tree. But it's too cold and too smooth to be a tree. Lamp post, she dimly realizes, but that's impossible. The stage of battle had been in the countryside, far away from any of the nearby towns, which had been wisely evacuated.
She lifts her head with a gasp, reaching a grimy hand up to scrub at her face, just as dirty. She hadn't minded the dirt, but the thing that bothered her now was the weirdly burning heat of a tear-track.
She hates herself a little for it.
Temari's hands lash out, grabbing for the first human body that passes within reach. She shakes desperately.
"Where am I?" she demands, voice low and hoarse. She doesn't care what impression she gives right now. Gaara and Naruto could be killed at any moment by Madara. If that were to happen, the army would lose both its head and its heart.
Things would just be clinging to life, after that.
